Election 2008

Currently there are three specific types of elected representatives within the States Chamber.

Senators: States Chamber

Jersey’s twelve Senators are elected on an island wide mandate by all those registered to vote within the island as a whole. A Senator’s term of office upon election is for six years. Unlike the parish-elected Deputies outlined below only six of the twelve Senatorial posts are contested every three years.

Election Date: Wednesday 15 October

Deputies:

Jersey’s Deputies are elected every three years to represent a parish-or in some cases-a district within a parish. The parishes with more than one electoral district are those of St. Helier, St. Saviour and St. Brelade. As things currently stand in 2008 twenty-seven Deputies will be elected into the States.

Election Date: Wednesday 26 November

Connétables:

The final group of representatives able to be elected into the States is that of the Parish Connétables. Elected by the voters of a particular parish alone in much the same way as the island’s Deputies the elections for the position of Connétable, however, have traditionally not taken place all at one and the same time. Though this situation may change at this present time the JDA will only be standing candidates in the elections for Senators and Deputies. In consequence, until further notice this website will not be presenting any information on forthcoming elections for the positions of Connétable until further notice.

Election Date: Wednesday 15 October
