Currently there are three specific types of elected representatives within the States Chamber.

Senators: States Chamber

Jersey’s twelve Senators are elected on an island wide mandate by all those registered to vote within the island as a whole. A Senator’s term of office upon election is for six years. Unlike the parish-elected Deputies outlined below only six of the twelve Senatorial posts are contested every three years.

Deputies:

Jersey’s Deputies are elected every three years to represent a parish-or in some cases-a district within a parish. The parishes with more than one electoral district are those of St. Helier, St. Saviour and St. Brelade.

Connétables:

The final group of representatives able to be elected into the States is that of the Parish Connétables. Elected by the voters of a particular parish alone in much the same way as the island’s Deputies the elections for the position of Connétable, however, have traditionally not taken place all at one and the same time.
