Election 2008

So Why Should I Bother Voting?   Why ‘Independent’ now all too often means ineffective!

Why should you bother to vote in the elections? At first glance this is a very good question indeed! After all, how many times have we all heard the familiar complaints?

‘I don’t bother to vote anymore - what’s the point? There’s no accountability, time after time its just the same old thing-these “independent” candidates make you all these promises then as soon as they get elected their promises go out of the window faster then their electoral principles – you either never hear from them again till the next election or they’re suddenly nodding their heads to pass whatever Senator Walker and his “establishment” party tell them to - and there seems to be no-one at all who can do anything about it!’

Not to mention…

“Nothing changes. Look at the public vote for Chief Minister most people want so badly. The JDA brought forward good propositions on this and yet everyone knows Senator Walker will be succeeded by the architect of GST himself, Senator Terry Le Sueur – and be secret States ballot too. It’s a joke!”

Or most frustrating of all…

‘Yes, I know that some of these “independent” politicians really do want to change things and keep their promises to the voters – but even then, nowadays on their own how much can they do? Over the last few years time after time their policies are vetoed out of hand by the all-powerful political establishment party who simply seem to be pursuing their own hidden agendas! ’

And that, in a nutshell, is exactly why we all should vote!

More than that, in fact-it’s precisely why we must vote!

Vote or meekly accept the awful prospect of three more wasted years of the same sorry political story of missed opportunities!

Three more wasted years of individual politicians who are unable to keep their promises to you simply because on their own they are out voted time and again by a powerful group of politicians with vested interests in keeping things the way they are!

Three more years of a government dominated by arrogant multi-millionaires with neither clue or concern for how ordinary working people live!

In 2008 it can finally be different!

Yes! By using your vote bravely and wisely in support of the candidates standing for election under the banner of the Jersey Democratic Alliance you can really help make 2008 the year we put an end to all this!

You can finally have politicians who by belonging to an organised alliance committed to a manifesto will do “exactly what it says on the tin!”

You can finally have politicians who will have to keep their word – or be held collectively accountable!

You can help to start transforming our beautiful island of Jersey back into the kind of place all decent; hardworking people want it to once again be! An island where the elected government works for the best interests of everyone!

Remember – if you don’t vote for the JDA,

you can’t really complain about being powerless!
